Social life…

STANLEY is the capital of the FALKLAND ISLANDS and although it's

Small and isolated, there are things to do,

(OTHER THAN GOING TO THE PUBS! )

If you're bored…

Most PEOPLE are at work or school

during the day, but during the HOLIDAYS or

on the WEEKENDS there are other

activities to do, places to go and PLENTY of

'stuff' to see…

  Darwin settlement

During certain times of the year there are many annual events including: MOTORCROSS, the RAFT RACE, and the MID-WINTER SWIM to name but a few.

For more info on these go to:

One POPULAR activity, when the weather is good,

is to take off into the WILDERNESS in a

4X4 and just drive to ANYWHERE…

There are miles and miles of UNSPOILT

MOUNTAINS, SHORES and just wide open

spaces - CAMPING is a great laugh!

"Land Rover ~ the best 4X4Xfar"

The rugged cliffs of New Island, West Falklands

The weather in the Falklands is extremely unreliable ~

in the summer, days can be with blue skies, light breezes and 26 degrees, or it can be blowing a gale and freezing cold!

Much of what you do is dependant upon the weather.

SOCIALISING amongst friends

does not need any explaining,

It's just the SAME ~ go around

to a friend's house, watch a VIDEO,

go out for FISH AND CHIPS,

go SHOPPING ~ whatever you like.

BUT IT'S NOT THAT EASY…!

Stanley, the main town, from the harbour

SHOPPING is not really an option ~

There are no 'HIGH STREET' SHOPS

And not many places to buy anything

Beyond the 'BASICS'. The main store,

WEST STORE has clothing, FOOD,

CD'S, electrical goods, toys etc. but not

a very wide range of choice.

Other shops in town carry similar stock

and it is constantly IMPROVING as

Connections with the UK become

More efficient.

Places to GO OUT and EAT with your friends' range from the SMART Malvina House Hotel and the Upland Goose Hotel,

Which serve QUALITY 3-course meals, to Hawkesworth's Café and SHORTY'S DINER for fish, chips and BURGERS.

These places are often visited on a Friday NIGHT before going on to the PUBS, or for special OCCASIONS.

Weddings and engagement parties are fairly common and as EVERYONE KNOWS EVERYONE, the receptions are usually a celebration

NOT TO BE MISSED!
